Abstract

VALCARCE ORTEGA, Rosa María; GONZALEZ MESA, Yigani  and  DIAZ GARCIA, María. Geophysical contribution in locating artificial recharge wells: Jaruco subbasin. riha [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.2, pp. 86-99. ISSN 1680-0338.

Located in western Cuba, the Jaruco sub-basin is one of the most important karstic aquifer systems in the country. The imposed exploitation regime and the periods of drought that frequently affect the territory, cause the decrease of its groundwater levels and the need to locate artificial recharge wells that allow the water recovery of this aquifer. The processing and interpretation of the geophysical methods applied in the study area, showed that the longitudinal conductance is an effective parameter to identify the most favorable zones where to inject water, from the correlation obtained between this parameter and the hydraulic diffusivity of the aquifer. The results show that the northwest region of the investigated area presents the best conditions to locate artificial recharge wells.

Keywords : karstic; aquifers; geophysics applied to hydrogeology; artificial recharge of aquifers.
