Abstract

RECIO-VILLA, Iosvany Alberto; SANDOVAL-PERDOMO, Haymelis; MARTINEZ-RODRIGUEZ, José Bienvenido  and  RODRIGUEZ-RODRIGUEZ, Alberto. Optimal pumping of wells in El Gato water supply system. riha [online]. 2019, vol.40, n.1, pp. 32-46. ISSN 1680-0338.

Water supply through pumping stations implies a high energy cost which in the long run becomes the highest operating cost. In this work, an optimization model is applied to develop a proposal for the operation of the water supply system ¨El Gato¨ for minimizing the cost of electric energy. The main result consists of establishing an operational scheme that minimizes the electric energy cost for a period of 168 hours. As practical results of the application of the model, the cost and consumption of electric energy and an operation schedule that defines the sequence of turning on and off of each pumping station are obtained.

Keywords : water supply; genetic algorithms; pumping costs; optimization.
