Abstract

FERNANDEZ DE CORDOVA WEBSTER, Carlos Javier; LEON MENDEZ, Alcides J.  and  RODRIGUEZ, Yakelín. Influence of the Manning roughness coefficient on the flood areas of the Yanuncay river in Cuenca. riha [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.1, pp. 115-126.  Epub Apr 01, 2020. ISSN 1680-0338.

In this work, the influence of the Manning roughness coefficient is studied on the flood areas of the Yanuncay river due to the ocurrence of extreme flows. A hydraulic model was used in varied and permanent regimes, with different flows and values of the coefficient n that represents the dynamic bed resistance to the transit of the avenue. Among the main results, it was evidenced that, by increasing the dynamic resistance coefficient (n), the flood area is increased non-linearly, which ratifies the care that should be taken when adopting a value for this parameter in a hydraulic model.
