Abstract

RODRIGUEZ PEREZ, Janner; CORDOVA LOPEZ, Luis F.  and  DIAZ GARCIA, Ovel. Coastal hydrodynamics during Hurricane Wilma (2005) in Artemisa, Mayabeque and Havana. riha [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.2, pp. 3-17.  Epub Mar 01, 2020. ISSN 1680-0338.

This work aimed to study, through computer simulation, the influence on sea level of the following phenomena: astronomical tide, storm surge and waves on the coasts of the provinces Artemisa, Mayabeque and Havana. The ADCIRC and ADCIRC + SWAN codes were executed in three scenarios, forced by components of the tide and atmospheric forces. Hurricane Wilma (2005) was selected. Eight locations were defined: four on the north coast and four south of the study area. The results are compared with data provided by NOAA. It was concluded that the storm surge was the phenomenon that increased more the sea level in the sites of the southern coast, while in the northern coast the astronomical tide reported the highest levels.

Keywords : hydrodynamics; hurricanes; numerical modeling; storm surge.
