Abstract

The effectiveness in the reduction of the wave overflow of seven alternatives of coastal defense works is evaluated, to control the floods in the area of Havana known as traditional boardwalk, from a set of typologies previously studied in the Hydraulic Research Center (CIH) of the Technological University of Havana. Results of preliminary studies of numerical and physical modeling are used. A comparison of the different alternatives is presented based on the reduction of the average wave overtopping rate. Hurricane Wilma 2005 is studied, the behavior of the variables is determined: average wave overtopping rate, the levels of danger generated in the study area and reduction percentages. The sections of greater overflow and danger are defined.
