Abstract

FERNANDEZ DE CORDOVA WEBSTER, Carlos Javier; ARIAS LASTRE, Pedro Pablo; RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ, Yakelín  and  LEON MENDEZ, Alcides Juan Felipe. Rain-runoff model for the Yanuncay river basin in Cuenca, Ecuador. riha [online]. 2021, vol.42, n.3, pp.127-153.  Epub July 21, 2021. ISSN 1680-0338.

In the Yanuncay river that runs through the city of Cuenca, floods frequently occur due to the large discharge that flow through the river. The anticipated knowledge of these phenomena requires a detailed study of the rain-runoff relationship. In the present paper, the determination of this relationship was obtained through a calibration process with nine events (with maximum discharge contained in the range of 17, 1 to 101 m3 / s that occurred in two hydrometric stations) and a subsequent validation stage, with four new events, using for this the HEC-HMS program. The selected events for these stages allowed the process to be carried out, guaranteeing its representativeness for the flow interval with large return periods that could occur in the basin.

Keywords : flood; rain-runoff; curve number; calibration; validation.
