Abstract

YEAR DIGAT, Gladis; ABAD RAMIREZ, Irenis  and  SUAREZ ACUNA, Martha de la Caridad. Characterization of saltwater intrusion in Najasa subbasin, South Coast Basin of Camagüey, Cuba. Ing. hidrául. ambient. [online]. 2022, vol.43, n.3, pp. 34-50.  Epub Oct 22, 2022. ISSN 2788-6050.

Coast Basin of Camagüey is an open karstic aquifer to the sea where is quantified the largest volumes of groundwater in the province, but there has been deterioration of their quality characteristics due to the advancement of the salt wedge, the Najasa subbasin is the most affected. This research presents the hydrogeochemical evolution in surface and depth, in the Najasa sub-basin, from the systematic monitoring of hydrogeochemistry, through the use of hydrochemical and statistical methods. It is possible to quantify the proportion of seawater present in the analyzed samples, the reactions that determine its chemical composition and the hydrogeochemical changes caused by saline intrusion.

Keywords : coastal karstic aquifers; hydrogeochemistry; saltwaterintrusion; inversehydrogeochemical modeling; multivariate statistics.
