Abstract

A methodology is presented to obtain the economic diameter of a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) force main pipe from a pumped source system for water supply. As a starting point, it takes the concept of Optimum System Efficiency Range (OSER), together with new concepts, criteria and approaches that complement each other to obtain the economic diameter of a conductor. The proposed procedure incorporates in this analysis, the determination of the nominal pressure (PN) for each section of the conductor profile and its internal diameters depending on the particularities of the pipeline layout, incorporating other variables that depend on the type of installation and its design scheme. The procedure is illustrated with the solution of a practical problem.
