Abstract

RODRIGUEZ GURRI, Daniel. Characterization of patients with diabetic foot disease treated with Heberprot-P® in the military hospital of Holguin province. Rev Cubana Angiol Cir Vasc. [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.1, pp.39-46. ISSN 1682-0037.

Introduction: the diabetic foot is considered a global health problem, since it causes a high number of amputations and admissions to hospitals. Objective: to characterize the patients with this disease treated with Heberprot-P®. Methods: adescriptive, retrospective, case series study of patients treated with this drug for five months in the angiology and vascular surgery service of the "Fermín Valdez Domínguez" military Hospital in Holguín province. Results: predominance of male geriatric patients with modifiable risk factors and distal occlusive pattern was observed. There was correspondence between the severity of the injury and the number of Heberprot-P® doses used. Minor non-life-threatening adverse reactions predominated and there was a tendency to perform conservative operations as necrectomies. Conclusions: the patients with diabetic foot treated with Heberprot-P® had satisfactory progression. This drug proved to be safe and effective and its use is encouraged through the implementation of preventive strategies.

Keywords : diabetic foot; amputation; necrectomies.
