Abstract

GARCIA LOPEZ, Omar  and  MIRANDA DIAZ, Belkis. Using Traditional and Natural Medicine in treating psoriasis. Rev. Med. Electrón. [online]. 2009, vol.31, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1684-1824.

Therapeutic methods used in treating psoriasis have changed according to the place where the lesions are, their seriousness, duration, previous treatments and age of the patients, but we cannot say that any of these treatments is really effective; that is why we pretend to compare the effectiveness of the radiation emitted by FOTOTER 101 with the effectiveness of photopuncture and acupuncture techniques, looking for better results in its treatment and a higher life quality. We applied the open, longitudinal, prospective study to 110 patients with clinical and pathologic diagnosis of psoriasis, using a simple randomized method without replacement. The patients were divided in two groups ( n=55) for each group. Group A was treated with photopuncture and group B with acupuncture. Both groups were evaluated every week during the three treatment cycles of 4 weeks each, and all of the patients were followed up for a month after treatment, with fortnightly evaluations. The evolution of both groups was satisfactory, because most of the sample presented whitening in the 4 th week of treatment, and pruritus also disappeared. We demonstrated that the treatment with FOTOTER 101 (photopuncture) is as efficacious as acupuncture in psoriasis.
