Abstract

ESCOBAR BLANCO, Libertad et al. Educating users in using medical information at the municipality of Matanzas. Rev. Med. Electrón. [online]. 2009, vol.31, n.4. ISSN 1684-1824.

This investigation is based on the problem of educating users, who have poor assistance to the educating courses carried out at the Provincial Center of Medical Sciences Information, at the Versalles area, municipality of Matanzas. We reviewed the national and international literature on the theme of educating information users to find how it behaves in the world and in Cuba, exposing the historical antecedents of educating users as main task of the reference service. We explained the advantage of managing traditional libraries to be able of working with digital and virtual libraries as information source, investigating the knowledge our users have on Infomed and informational alphabetization, applying the users a six-question survey to find out if they know about these education courses. The results are showed up in tables, to which the percentage was applied. The obtained results were analyzed and the conclusions are that the centers where the surveys were applied have to improve their activity with new ideas and challenges, but based on the knowledge of the traditional library.
