DIAZ ESTEVEZ, Lidia María; NARANJO RODRIGUEZ, Sandra Adela  and  NEGRET HERNANDEZ, Marisel. Behavior of the accidents by foreign bodies in Pediatric Otolaryngology. Rev.Med.Electrón. [online]. 2015, vol.37, n.4, pp. 356-363. ISSN 1684-1824.

We carried out an observational prospective study in the Pediatric Hospital “Eliseo Noel Caamaño”, of the province of Matanzas, including every patient who assisted the Emergency Unit with the presence of a foreign body in the otolaryngological areas, from June 2011 to June 2013. The information was collected from the medical records and a card for collecting data designed for that. Data were processed using the percentage method; tables were elaborated. The highest frequency of these accidents was concentrated in the ages between 5 and 11 and between 1 and 4. The highest frequency corresponded to inorganic bodies, especially school and games materials, in the presence of adults, located mainly in the ear and nose, with the total assessment of an specialist in Otolaryngology and low percent of complications.

Keywords : accident; aspiration; foreign body; Pediatric Otolaryngology.
