Abstract

A retrospective, descriptive study was carried out, 1417 protocols of autopsies corresponding to deceaseds were revised in the Hospital "Enrique Cabrera", in the period 2003-2004 and 2005, of these were included in our study 605 autopsy protocols belonging to hypertensive patient, to describe the main causes of death in these patients. We recollected data in a model of data recovery automatically processed. Variables were analyzed as: age, sex, causes of death according to anatomopathológic diagnosis and if they due to Arterial Hypertension. Male was predominant with 307 death patients for a 50.74%, over than 50% was 50 years and more. The main causes of death were: the pneumonias and bronchopneumonias with 160 deaths patients for a 26.4%; the cardiovascular illnesses with 130 deaths patients for 21.4% and the s cerebral diseases with 129 deaths patients for a 21.3%, according to strict rule of death for Arterial Hypertension bighes¨number died by Cerebral Haemorrhage with 32 patients for 44.0%.
