Abstract

Proportion of adults and old increase observed in last decades, it´s translated as addition of requirements and demands of deontology assistance to this population group. An observational, descriptive study was carried out in 2007 with objective of characterizing state of oral health and knowledge level of 45 patient geriatrics belonging to March 19th clinic of Parish Caricuao, Caracas, Venezuela. Decay and dental prosthetics need was detected most common after observation and clinical exam, Periodontal Russell Index risk factors was applied, a survey was also applied determine knowledge level of oral health. High percent of examined patients presented decay and periodontal illness advance. Decay antecedent prevailed as a risk factors studied. It was found an important percentage of olds requires dental prosthetics and geriatric´s knowledge level about oral health was very low for both genre, result it becomes necessary strategy intervention approach which improve state of population's Venezuelan geriatric´s oral health and knowledge level about oral health.
