Abstract

Introduction: Chronic obesity is a disease of multifactor origin characterized by the increasement Of fat and weight and it involves the risk of acquiring other diseases. Objective: Characterize different cardiovascular disorder taking place in obese teenagers treated At "Juan Manuel Marquez" paediatric Hospital since July 2008 to July 2010. Patients and Method: It was made a descriptive and prospective study in 70 obese teenagers making Anthropometric evaluations. Echocardiograms, electrocardiograms and blood pressure tests were also made. Results: There was a prevalence of masculine gender (85,7%). A 64,3% of the patients had a time of obesity between one and five years. A 14,3% and 5,7% of the patients had a bigger thickness of intraventricular septum and left back ventricular wall respectively. There was a 5,7% of the patients with left ventricular hypertrophy. Blood pressure didn't differ from cardiovascular disorders and time of duration of obesity. Conclusions: Obese patients population could be characterized and there was no significant association between obesity and cardiovascular disorders.
