Abstract

Introduction: in designing the medical curriculum in the 80's, it was consider to remark the socio-medical disciplines as: Epidemiology, Theory and Health Administration and General Medicine. This decision offer a great methodological opportunity to include the Health Situation Analysis (HSA) as the guiding of these disciplines, based on a model to develop the initial training into the new curriculum. Objective: the objective of this study was to review critically the utility and application of this model since its implantation to the present, according to changes and modifications that interfering with the quality of the teaching process about this issue. Material and Methods: a critical analysis was made, based on qualitative technics like document revisal (programs and teaching plans) and interviews to experts decision makers and professors in different Faculties of Medical Sciences. Results: among the results of the review, the findings highlight the changes on methodological model, referred to the modifications were made by various groups of professors, some positive and some not so. For example, it´s consider positive a unique Metodological Guide and it´s consider a negative result, the scheme elaborated at 1994 and no totally applied. Conclusions: as an important conclusion, it was recognized the HSA as a useful instrument for graduate´s performance and neccesary the design and application for the training model from 1988, but today, in this teaching process, weaknesses and shortcomings are detected, that it´s affecting quality and must be eliminated.
