Abstract

VIEGO FELIPE, Percy R; GOMEZ SARDUY, Julio R; DE ARMAS TEYRA, Marcos A  and  SOUSA SANTOS, Vladimir. Harmonic effects on permanent - capacitor single- phase induction motors. Energética [online]. 2014, vol.35, n.1, pp.27-37. ISSN 1815-5901.

Strong distorted voltage waveforms, have a negative impact on the performance of single-phase squirrel-cage induction motors. Energetic parameters become worse, vibration and noise increase and life expectancy is reduced. Steady state performance of permanent capacitor single-phase induction motor is studied. The study is extensible to a two-value capacitor motor. An experimental application taken from literature was analyzed. In that work is evident the increase in losses, power factor reduction, greater pulsating torques and other undesirable tendencies when non-sinusoidal currents are circulating in the motor circuits. A study related to current wave distortion in Cuban housing electric circuits is made. The need of a deep analysis of the effect not only on the motors, but on the electric system as well, is made clear. Artificial intelligence methods have to be used to study these problems, arising on the presence of non sinusoidal wave forms, especially for working in situ.

Keywords : harmonics effect on single phase induction motors; housing power supply; induction motor efficiency; single-phase permanent and two-value-capacitor motors.
