Abstract

SANCHEZ PORTILLA, Florentino  and  VIZCON TOLEDO, Roberto. The Organic Waste Codigestion: an energy, environmental and human health contribution. Energética [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.3, pp. 226-236. ISSN 1815-5901.

Today in the world large amounts of residual biomass are discarded without treatment, mainly generated by the natural activities of living beings. Which means a serious problem of pollution and health for the planet; however, these waste by using appropriate treatment such as digestion, offer benefits such as obtaining of biogas, safe bio-fertilizers and reduction of environmental and human health damage. The results were obtained through codigestion experiments in a laboratory scale with cattle manure, food waste and sewage sludge, justify the use of this energy technology with a high beneficial environmental impact (39,8 using Leopold´s  Matrix),  energy generation from biogas based on the 1 184,12 kJ/kg  of dry mass used ,the conversion of biomass given the COD reduction around 37,32 to 56,39 g/l, the elimination of pathogenic microorganisms and the production of ammonia nitrogen around 309 to 516 mg/l

Keywords : anaerobic treatment; energy assessment; environmental impact; residual biomass.
