Abstract

FERRER VALLIN, Moises; SANTOS FUENTEFRIA, Ariel  and  LLAMO LABORI, Hector Silvio. Power factor analysis in an isolated system with renewable energy. Energética [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.1, pp. 13-20. ISSN 1815-5901.

Due to the inability of PV generation to follow demand changes and the possibility of a mismatch of the solar plant’s maximum output and the end-user’s maximum demand, daily load curves characteristic factors can be affected negatively. In this study an isolated system’s load factor behavior is analyzed. The influence of a photovoltaic (PV) system with the possibility to increase its rated capacity is also studied. With the goal of improving the previously mentioned factors, an electrical energy storage (ESS) working in conjunction with the PV system is proposed and evaluated. The results of the analysis were obtained using an algorithm developed in MATLAB which also made possible to achieve the best approach to operate the ESS.

Keywords : power system; solar photovoltaic energy; load curve; energy storage; renewable energy.
