Abstract

HEREDIA-RICO, Jobany José; RODRIGUEZ-HERNANDEZ, Aida Georgina  and  VILALTA-ALONSO, José Alberto. Data analysis as teaching management support at industrial engineering university course. Ing. Ind. [online]. 2012, vol.33, n.1, pp.19-30. ISSN 1815-5936.

Current development of technologies for data analysis aids organizations understanding their processes to a greater extent and taking actions more effectively regarding such processes. Universities are organizations where the use of these technologies is viable. The work shows the design and application of a methodological proposal based on using multivariate analysis techniques in order to obtain relevant information about learning characteristics of Industrial Engineering students from Polytechnical University of Havana "José Antonio Echeverría", Cujae (in its Spanish acronym) . By means of putting into practice the suggested techniques, it is possible to characterize students learning condition at each academic year and investigate transitions from one condition to another throughout academic years. Considering recommendations given in the model for using knowledge discovered on data, it is possible to help didactics in managing teaching process because educational actions are more focused on students' individual differences.

Keywords : multivariate statistical analysis; higher education; academic performance; knowledge management.
