Abstract

TADDEI-BRINGAS, Jorge; RODRIGUEZ-CARVAJAL, Ricardo  and  RUIZ-DUARTE, José. Registration process optimization in a Higher Education Institution using Simulation. Ing. Ind. [online]. 2013, vol.34, n.1, pp. 12-25. ISSN 1815-5936.

This paper shows the utilization of Systems Simulation, with a service sector approach, for problem solving and decision making in Freshmen Enrollment Process of the campus Hermosillo at Sonora University, which is located in the north of Mexico. The objective is to reach the optimization of the servers required at each sub process involved, without endanger quality. With the aim of establishing the performance of the input variables, it was used the standard time calculation technique, based on a simulation of the enrollment process, since it was not possible to use historical data. The validation phase of the input data of the model was carried out with real information obtained during the execution of the enrollment process. With the implementation of the model it was obtained a considerable reduction of the enrollment time for the applicants for the University, and the model was validated for future applications.

Keywords : simulation; optimization; services.
