Abstract

ORBEA LOPEZ, Marbelis. Mortality in childhood, a priority theme at the international level. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2019, vol.15, n.30, pp. 178-188.  Epub Apr 15, 2020. ISSN 1817-4078.

At present, child protection is a hotly debated issue in the international context due to the influence of social inequalities on the well-being of children and their families. International organizations recognize serious problems such as unequal access to education, health, drinking water, housing conditions and the environment in which infants develop, among other factors, which affect their proper development and, also, in their chances of survival.

This article proposes an update about the evolution of childhood mortality worldwide, making the Latin American region a part of the international scene.

Keywords : Mortality in childhood; transition of mortality in childhood; epidemiological transition in childhood; infant mortality; mortality of children under five.
