Introduction:

the language is English is considered as the universal language. In the medicine career, its use has been relegated to the fact that only students have basic knowledge about the use of English. However, mastering this language is essential to face the situations of daily medical life based on Evidence Based Medicine.

Objective:

to apply an educational intervention to consolidate the skills of medical students in the use of the English language.

Methods:

an educational intervention was developed in the sixth through eighth semesters of the medical career with the aim of enhancing the skills of English language management in the resolution of clinical cases. Searches related to medical topics in databases were obtained by obtaining documents originally written in English. Subsequently, the reading, interpretation and debate of its content was carried out.

Results:

the handling of the English language in the students was considerably increased. There was a significant improvement in understanding and writing; the advances in diction being somewhat inferior. Students' abilities to search for scientific articles in engines and search engines with an international scientific impact were also improved.

Conclusions:

the applied intervention improved the level of knowledge of medical students in relation to the use and management of the English language in the resolution of clinical cases through the application of the concepts of Evidence-Based Medicine.
