Abstract

The article aims to know the number of patients using soft contact lenses colored for cosmetic purposes. Age, sex and occupation, as well as VISUAL ACUITY, quality and quantity of tear film through tear test in the period February - June 2018, which will remain as good practices for the content system of the Optometry career of the Metropolitan University of Ecuador. The results show that the age between 13 to 18 years prevailed with 25 patients (42%), the female sex is the most representative with 35 patients (58%), and 29 patients (48%) were students. Normal binocular visual acuity without correction was 73% in distant vision and 92% of patients in near vision. 100% of the patients reached a normal visual acuity with its optical correction, 62% of the patients presented poor tear quality, 55% presented lacrimal hyposecretion which is very important to scientifically reinforce in the study plan of the race, as a study reference for our students.
