The university is a potential dinamizing agent for sustainable development. In the university, the investigation is sustained on the pregrade and postgraduate formation processes. The introduction of research results tend to produce transformations that become changes in the management and other fundamental processes for the enhancing of the quality of teaching and learning, in the personal realtionships and the values system that rule it. The university, as an educative and investigative institution is the main change agent that is due to pose answers to the social problems, making a coherent practice with that is taught and investigated. To consolidate the sustainable development, it is suggested to propose preforming lines, which in the integration of the main processes of the university, allow to offer answers to the mission of the universities. Internal lines are associated to formation, information and extension; the external ones have to do with the mobility of students and professors and the creation of national and international networks. In the present paper, the contribution of the educational research to the sustainable development of universities is examined from the point of view of the main university processes.
