Abstract

The article reflects on the functions of the University: vocational training, research, cultural extension and social projection, continuing education and contribution to human development. In this context, two aspects stand out: i) the training in research of students since the exercise of teaching and ii) the creation of new knowledge, which refers to formative research and scientific research, respectively. It also recognizes the little consensus that exists between teachers and students about the meaning of formative research, both in professional training in general and in pedagogical in particular, conceived as a didactic strategy to learn to investigate; action research for transformation; procedure to incorporate scientific knowledge and even to motivate the taste for research. But what should deserve acceptance is the fact of strengthening the formative research with curricular update, versed teaching researchers, scientific attitude of the students, research culture, resource implementation and institutional political decision.
