The search for musical identity is a constant in the debates of current Cuban musicology that is linked to the nationalist movements of the second half of the 19th century. This phenomenon was common among the former European colonies, which were debated between Eurocentrism and the rejection of the European, the oscillation between indigenous and African, which has its center of departure in the oligarchies of Latin America. The history of the Cuban Culture different stages of its development a continuity dynamic and break with its precedent. The avant-garde musical movements of the twentieth century in Cuba, pursue aesthetic purposes with the addition of Afro-Cuban elements to classical music. The treatment of the avant-garde movements in Cuba is approached from a valuation analysis of the literature related to the treatment of the avant-garde musical and its influence on the conformation of the sound panorama of the island in the first half of the twentieth century, from a perspective of expression of thought in the search for the truly national.
