Abstract

ZARATE ALIAGA, Edith Consuelo; LAVADO ROJAS, Betty Marlene  and  POMAHUACRE GOMEZ, Walter. Cultural communicative competence and academic achievement in foreign language. Conrado [online]. 2020, vol.16, n.74, pp. 30-37.  Epub June 02, 2020. ISSN 1990-8644.

In the article the aim is to establish the degree of relationship between intercultural communicative competence and academic performance in foreign language students. The approach applied was quantitative, descriptive method and correlational design. The sample was formed with 280 students. A questionnaire was applied to collect data of the first variable and the final notes of the specialty subjects for the second variable. The results show that the relationship between the variables is of weak positive degree, according to the statistical test of Spearman Rho, with the value of 0,172. Cognitive, behavioural or affective intercultural communicative competence do not, therefore, interfere with the learning of foreign languages, because the result obtained in each of these dimensions es, equally, weak positive.

Keywords : Intercultural communicative competence; academic performance; foreign languages.
