Abstract

HERNANDEZ CABRERA, Yoan et al. Professional improvement "Code red" obstetric. An alternative to decrease maternal morbidity and mortality due to postpartum hemorrhage. Conrado [online]. 2020, vol.16, n.75, pp.32-40.  Epub Aug 02, 2020. ISSN 2519-7320.

Maternal mortality is unacceptably high worldwide. Estimates from the World Health Organization state that every day a large number of women die worldwide from complications related to pregnancy, childbirth or the puerperium; Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) being one of the serious complications that implies a life-threatening situation for the patient. Hence the need for the assistant team to be sufficiently updated on the best techniques and strategies to save women's lives. A survey aimed at residents and specialists in Gynecology and Obstetrics was applied to identify the knowledge, modes of action and learning needs around the subject under study, diagnosing insufficiencies in knowledge and scarce skills of professionals for the adequate and current management of HPP. For this reason, a professional development course was designed around the HPP based on the “Red Code” strategy, structured into 8 topics taught in different teaching forms to be worked on in 160 hours or not, with partial and final evaluations. It was obtained as a result that the course taught allowed to overcome the diagnosed deficiencies, increase the knowledge, skills and competences of the professionals linked to the care of women with extremely severe maternal morbidity due to PPH and provide excellent medical care that guarantees complete well-being and reduction of maternal morbidity and mortality.
