Abstract

ANTON CHAVEZ, Alina del Pilar. The memes: communication and political culture for a centennial digital citizenship. Conrado [online]. 2020, vol.16, n.75, pp. 159-167.  Epub Aug 02, 2020. ISSN 1990-8644.

University students express their citizenship by voting before facing an electoral process, the difference between one generation and another is evidenced in multiple factors, such as culture and political communication. Therefore, the exploratory study aims to show the influence of these two factors in the formation of a centennials digital citizenship through memes as a form of political propaganda. Of mixed methodology, a content analysis was carried out through a file that allowed us to collect the characteristics of 7 Facebook pages whose publications were addressed to the students of the National University of Piura in the electoral period between 13 and 16 October. The results show that the language and cultural code used in the memes connected with the political profile of their generation both in their interest in everyday micropolitics and in the digital platform as a means of political communication.

Keywords : Political communication; political culture; digital citizenship; centennials generation.
