The present study was carried out with the purpose of determining the relationship between the variables study habit and academic performance in the Professional School of Medicine of the National University of San Marcos, in Lima, Peru, for second-year students during 2017. The few or no study skills in higher education students is a problem that is constant throughout the world today, this includes Peruvian students. In this research, a group of sixty students is evaluated regarding their study habits and academic performance. As a result of the statistical processing with the support of Spearman’s correlation coefficient, we determined that there is a positive and significant correlation between these variables. Although this result may seem predictable, there are other studies that contradict the conclusions that are provided in this research. The importance of the study is that with the information obtained allow teachers to improve the quality of classes, because now the teachers of this university have the scientific certainty that students’ good study habits are essential, which will contribute to their personal fulfillment and to their social utility.
