Decision-making is an essential skill, a key element for professional performance. This article intends to contribute to establish decision-making as a professional skill on the formation of pediatricians. It approaches the steps for decision-making, which are definition of the problem, development of solution options, evaluation of the different choices and selection of the best of them, implementation, and follow-up of the decision. The particularities this skill holds to the pediatric specialist are analyzed with the purpose of setting a reference framework to understand the need to open up for reflection and debate regarding the priority that should be granted on medical practice; but, above all, on the formation programs of these specialists.
