Environmental pollution is an issue of global concern, the creation of environmental awareness increases its protagonism in order to achieve a sustainable planet. In educational institutions, citizens are formed, who in addition to their professional performance, will assume roles in social life, therefore, their preparation must go beyond the curricular programs. The purpose of this research was to determine the level of environmental awareness, the knowledge of the rights of good living and the elimination of single-use plastic products in students and teachers of two universities: the Universidad Regional Autónoma de Los Andes and the Universidad de Guayaquil. For this purpose, statistical techniques and instruments were used to conclude that there is a lack of knowledge on the part of the students and teachers surveyed regarding the topic. Based on the analysis of the causes, actions are proposed to mitigate them.
