Abstract

GARCIA SEGOVIA, Ana Cristina; PINO ROBALINO, Patricia Judith  and  SEGOVIA PALMA, Patricia Ivonne. Academic performance in the career of dentistry, university of Guayaquil: an approach from virtual and hybrid education. Conrado [online]. 2022, vol.18, n.88, pp. 236-244.  Epub Oct 30, 2022. ISSN 1990-8644.

The academic performance of the dentist requires knowledge and skills to meet the objectives of the career and the exercise of the profession, which demands innovations in the teaching-learning process. However, studies on teaching performance in new educational modalities in certain subjects of the Dentistry career at the University of Guayaquil are not enough. The present work has the purpose of assessing the academic results of learning in the subjects Anatomy of the Stomatognathic System and General Biochemistry, according to the approaches of virtual and hybrid education. A descriptive study with a longitudinal panel design was carried out in these subjects during the 2020 and 2021 courses. The total population was 145 students enrolled in both subjects. The grades obtained in the second partial exam were analyzed, contrasting the virtual education developed in 2020 and the hybrid applied in 2021. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used, after exploratory analysis of the data. Statistically significant differences are found between the averages in both subjects and modalities, being better in Hybrid Education, so strategies must be strengthened to apply all educational modalities with higher levels of quality in teaching.
