Abstract

ANAYA-FIGUEROA, Tania María; BRITO-GARCIAS, José Gregorio  and  MONTALVO-CASTRO, Jorge. Challenges of academic writing in undergraduate students: a review of the literature. Conrado [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.91, pp. 86-94.  Epub Apr 30, 2023. ISSN 1990-8644.

This article presents a review of studies on academic writing from an initial sample of 216 articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. It analyzes the problem in four axes: context, individual, university and text. It establishes that academic writing is a non-transferable cognitive capacity linked to the socio-cultural field. The article highlights the importance of intrinsic motivation and feedback. It states that the texts need to meet standards of acceptability, informativeness and intentionality. It is concluded that writing should be considered a transversal competence of the university curriculum and that ICTs allow improving the quality of texts.
