PORTAL BENITEZ, Leonila Noralis; GARCIA MARTINEZ, Melba; PERDOMO BLANCO, Liset  and  DUARTE LINARES, Yoisel. Bioethics and competencies in the training of the general surgery resident in times of covid 19. Conrado [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.91, pp. 573-578.  Epub Apr 30, 2023. ISSN 1990-8644.

Ethics and values have been topics of analysis in studies and discussion. The current crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic has raised doubts, controversies and dilemmas in surgical care and teaching. The competency-based training approach emerges as one of the ways to approach the achievement of the desired quality. Values, outside strictly scientific knowledge, are key in the daily practice of the health professional. The pandemic has forced to migrate to a virtual education, making use of information and communication technologies, in view of the above, the university teacher must possess digital skills and adapt satisfactorily to the environment that the global crisis has proposed. Being good professionals with compatible skills, to obtain a performance, with a solid training, will promote the competency-based training of comprehensive professionals. Surgical education should not be abandoned in times of COVID-19 and virtual continuing education programs are a viable option to mitigate the effect of the pandemic.
