Educational software is a category widely used in training spaces because clearly you can see the potential for mediation of communicative processes conducive to learning offers. Today there are multiple categories and denominations for such an important tool, however each of these denominations have idiographic elements that differentiate them.

This work is aimed at providing important details of educational software that identify it and differentiate it from educational resources, even if it is contained in this classification group.

For this, a systematization of these concepts is carried out applying deductive and inductive methods, analysis and synthesis among others.

As a result, a definition of educational software is obtained that clearly exposes each one of the characteristics by which it is defined in this way.
