Abstract

Education is a socialization process, that is to say, the man's preparation for life in society thatrequires of a very diverse learning, as well as knowledge, abilities, norms and values that identify the fellow as a member of a cultural community, of a town, of a nation. It is a process that begins from the own birth and it continues along a lifetime. It is a of socialization process of a permanent, dynamic and contradictory character, in which multiple actors denominated agents and socialization agencies intervene. Parents and nearer relatives, teachers, friends and neighbors, leaders of social and political organizations, public personalities and social communicators are among the agents. The family, the school, the community, the organizations and institutions and the mass media are among the socialization agencies.
The present work approaches the importance of the school, professors and the educational work with the function of achieving the decrease of the school desertion in the Colombian educational context, having as objective to meditate on the significance of the school and the professor as an agency and as an educational agent, and the role that they should play for the decrease of school desertion.
