Abstract

FERNANDEZ-CRUZ, Sara; GOMEZ-IGLESIAS, Rolando R.  and  VELAZQUEZ-VELAZQUEZ, Amparo. Assessment of constructive favorability of Jaimanitas formation in the northeastern zone of Cuba. Min. Geol. [online]. 2022, vol.38, n.1, pp. 39-52.  Epub Mar 31, 2022. ISSN 1993-8012.

Investments increase in the coastal areas of the eastern north of Cuba demands assessing the aptitude of rock formations to hold constructions, based on design of foundations and location of construction objects. This article presents evaluation from the physical, mechanical and quality point of view of rocks from Jaimanitas formation, considering it is a wide extension of geological formation in this area and it has a great karst development. This study was based on field and office work, including drilling, and laboratory analysis. As a result, for plot 63 A of Baracutey hotel in El Ramón de Antilla peninsula, the karst zoning and constructive favorability map were obtained which allowed to choose the most favorable alternatives for the engineering project with less constructive and environmental costs.

Keywords : constructive favorability; karst; Jaimanitas formation; El Ramon peninsula.
