Abstract

ALOGO-NGUEMA, Alfonso; CARTAYA-PIRE, Maday; SARGENTON-ROMERO, Gilberto  and  CUESTA-RECIO, Armando. Structural performance of the rock massif from Baney quarry in Bioko Sur, Equatorial Guinea. Min. Geol. [online]. 2022, vol.38, n.3, pp. 266-276.  Epub Sep 30, 2022. ISSN 1993-8012.

The aim of this work is to establish the structural performance of the rock massif from Baney quarry, in Malabo city, using geomechanical parameters. A geological survey was carried out to determine the different kinds of cracks and the size of the blocks. The geomechanical quality of the massif was established according to Romana’s SMR classification and by using QGís and ArGís software. The strength results obtained in the laboratory revealed the existence of high - strength rock; four family of cracks were detected and the block size was small. Mapping of SMR index values obtained (from 61 to 39) revealed the existence of zones of different stability within the quarry, ranging from stable to unstable zones.

Keywords : Baney quarry; basaltic rocks; massif quality; Roman’s SMR; rock massif stability.
