Abstract

GARRIDO, María Liva et al. Analytical procedures for the determination of heavy metals in carrot and spinach from urban vegetables gardens. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.1, pp.20-26. ISSN 2071-0054.

The increases in industrialization, urbanization and pollution threaten food production and its quality. Organic orchards belonging to the urban agriculture in our country do represent an alternative to meet food needs because of short cycles of cultivation and lack of chemicals (fertilizers). Analytical procedures are implemented to analyze the quality products from "organopónicos". Each product to analyse should be subjected, firstly to the optimization of sample treatment parameters and finally to the validation of obtained results. In this work were optimized: the particle size, acid concentration and effective time for the sonication and / or extraction of metals studied in samples of carrot, and Talinum Triangulare. The determination of Cd, Pb, Ni, Cu and Mn was performed by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and very low detection limits were obtained for these elements. With the validation of the procedure was estimated intermediate precision and repeatability for routine control. The coefficients of variation were proper for trace analysis. Statistical evidence of systematic error of the proposed analytical procedure was not found.

Keywords : metals; FAAS; ultrasonic bath.
