Abstract

VALDES HERNANDEZ, Pedro A.; MARTINEZ RODRIGUEZ, Arturo; LAFFITA LEYVA, Alexander  and  GOMEZ AGUILA, María Victoria. Influence of a variable feeding angle on work parameters of drum type forage choppers with hand feeding. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.3, pp. 46-53. ISSN 2071-0054.

In order to improving the performance of drum type forage choppers with manual feeding, the influence of a variable feeding angle on the caliber of chopped particles, the productivity, the demanded energy and the cutting-suction forces originated during processing of thick stalks, was evaluated with aid of a theoretical model of the cutting-suction process. The prediction of the model, with respect to the size of chopped particles, was validated during processing of sugar cane stalks in an experimental forage chopping machine. Starting from the introduction of the concept of variable feeding angle was determined that it is possible to achieve, for the same mean flow of processed material, an additional increment of the quality of the chopped forage. The obtained results show that the mean values of the output parameters (productivity, cutting-suction force and total power required for the process), diminish as the length of the cutting support zone increases, being possible to achieve rational and more uniform values of the output parameters, by means of an adequate selection of the feeding ramp angle, the quantity of fed stalks and the length of the cutting support zone.

Keywords : theoretical model; productivity; particles size; cutting-suction force.
