Abstract

REYES-RODRIGUEZ, Reinaldo; GURIDI-IZQUIERDO, Fernando  and  VALDES-CARMENATE, Ramiro. The agricultural management modifies properties and the heavy metals availability in Red Ferrallitic soils. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.4, pp. 23-31. ISSN 2071-0054.  http://dx.doi.org/10.13140/G.2.2.15279.33448.

Non efficient agricultural management, especially, under not very sustainable conditions may provoke unfavorable effects to agro ecosystems. This constitutes source of entrance of pollutants and modifications of the natural properties of the soils. It is important to monitoring the impact of management systems as for the availability of heavy metals, as well as for the modifications they cause in soils properties and quality of cultivations. In Cuba, this information is no up dated, which represents a hazard for agricultural production and food security. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of management practices on physical, chemical, physical-chemical properties and availability of heavy metals in five different managing on two types of red ferrallitic soils of Mayabeque province. The texture, the structural stability, the pH (in water and KCl), the contents of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, the soluble organic carbon, as well as the cadmium, copper, nickel and lead available were determined. The results showed differences in the evaluated properties, being the management system of Ferrallitic Red hydrated under potato cultivation FRh (P), was the one that induced the more indicators unfavorable. The soils of intensive use registered the biggest values for Cu2+,Pb2+, and Ni2+, in the case of Cd2+ the management of the cultivation potato presented the highest content, reaching a superior value to the one referred as permissible maximum in several countries and for Ferrallitic Red soils of Cuba

Keywords : soil structure; contaminants; fertility indicators; organic carbon.
