Abstract

PENABAD-SANZ, Laksmi; IZNAGA-BENITEZ, Arsenio Miguel; RODRIGUEZ-RAMOS, Pedro Antonio  and  CAZANAS-MARISY, Caridad. Readiness and availability as indicators in transportation. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.4, pp.64-73. ISSN 2071-0054.  http://dx.doi.org/10.13140/RG.2.2.16118.19522.

Indicators are important elements to evaluate the management performance in any organization. Readiness, in Cuba, has been set to assess the efficiency of transportation fleet. However, some authors, in different publications, present readiness, similar to availability. The elements that define an indicator are: formula, reference index, methods to calculate the obtainment of variable values and situations used in maintenance management at the asset hierarchy level of unit and fleet. This allowed the establishment of similarities and differences between these indicators. Finally, it can be summed up that the similarity between readiness and availability lies upon the vehicle functioning conditions, accomplishing the required parameters. The difference, on the other hand, is that readiness indicates that the means of transport is ready to undertake a mission, that is, that the equipment could be idle
