Abstract

GOMEZ GARCIA, Susetty Lorena; HINOSTROZA DUENAS, Guillermo Antonio  and  LEYVA FERREIRO, Grisell. Advances and Experiences of Cooperativism as a Trend: The Case of Ecuador. Cofin [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.2, pp.254-267. ISSN 2073-6061.

The objective of this paper is to identify the historical background of cooperativism and aspects related with its emergence, evolution and current situation in Ecuador. For this purpose, a literature review was made based on texts from nationally and internationally recognized authors and official sources, which provided relevant statistical information from recent years. The study allowed to conclude that the theory recognizes that cooperativism, in the case of Ecuador, has been constituted as a strategic institutional sector for the popular and solidary economy and, at the same time, as a great reference for economic development and the promotion of contemporary social integration. Likewise, the role assumed by the cooperatives of transport services within the group of non-financial cooperatives is highlighted.

Keywords : non-financial cooperatives; cooperativism; popular and solidarity economy.
