Abstract

Introduction: the improvement of the teaching of philosophy was carried out in the academic year 2010-2011 in the medical sciences careers, with the implementation of the syllabus of Philosophy and Society I&II, after a careful work done by the Ministry of public Health National Philosophy Group. The objective of this work is to value the principal theoretical basis and foundations of this syllabus. Methods: the review of documents of the Philosophy department files and the referred bibliography about this topic. Outcomes: it's stated in this work the necessity to develop a new syllabus for the Philosophy and Society subject in the medical sciences, as a result of the improvement of teaching in the social sciences disciplines of the Cuban university teaching. It is highlighted a group of theoretical, pedagogical and ideological basis, having a Marxist, classist and contemporary approach which sustain this syllabus in such a way that it is at the level of the challenges and demands of current time and the graduated profile. Conclusions: the valuation made about the principal foundations and basis of this syllabus contributes to the comprehension of the place and role of Philosophy within the study plan of the medical sciences careers.
