Abstract

LOPEZ DE CASTRO ALONSO, Adelfa; ZURBANO COBAS, Anabel; GUARDADO VALDES, Yamilet  and  SAEZ LUNA, Maira. Methodological strategy for the work of the third-year Dentistry teaching staff. Rev EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2014, vol.6, suppl.1, pp. 46-60. ISSN 2077-2874.

Background: the functions of the third-year Dentistry teaching staff are still perfectible to achieve an adequate direction and control of the teaching-learning process. Objective: to design a methodological strategy to improve the work of the third-year Dentistry teaching staff. Methods: a development research, with a qualitative approach, was conducted from September 2010 to July 2011. The population consisted of the 11 members of the above-mentioned teaching staff. The theoretical methods included analysis-synthesis, inductive-deductive method and the systemic, structural functional method, for the theoretical framework and its current status in the treatment of the reviewed literature, and for the systemic nature of the activities. The empirical methods used included documentary analysis and survey _ a questionnaire to the teachers and students involved in the process, and interviews to key informants, plus the nominal group to unify criteria. Results: deficiencies were found in several work areas: planning and control, didactics, methodological and research areas, with emphasis on the last two areas. Insufficient knowledge about the theoretical and methodological foundations of the teaching staff work was also found. A strategy was designed, comprising a set of actions that take the inter-subject relations as the central point, an activity that connotes this academic level of the teaching-learning process. Conclusions: there are deficiencies in fulfilling the functions that are assigned to this level. The methodological strategy was based on the diagnosis and contains actions that correspond to the identified problems. Experts rated the designed product as relevant, useful and with a suitable methodological framework; therefore it was accepted.
