Abstract

Background: it becomes necessary to develop an environmentalist culture that allows facing with success the new situations of degradation of the environment; such is the importance of the educational work in the formation of a more responsible behavior, in this sense, in the new generations. Objective: to elaborate extracurricular actions to develop an environmentalist culture in the students of the medical sciences. Methods: it was carried out a descriptive research work with a qualitative approach during the school course 2010-2011 in the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara. Methods of the theoretical level were applied: the analysis-synthesis and the induction-deduction, which allowed to know the generality of the studied problem and the way in which the topic is treated in the teaching-educational process; of the empiric level: the documental analysis in the revision of the program of the discipline Preparation for the Defense, and the survey, in questionnaire form was applied to the students to diagnose the knowledge they have about an environmental culture. Results: in the above mentioned program the topic has been appropriately treated, but deficiencies were diagnosed in the environmental culture of the students, since they show scarce knowledge on environmental problems, they don't reflect to be involved directly in their solution, a great reason why they intended extracurricular actions for their development. Conclusions: the proposal was valued as pertinent and feasible of executing by the specialists consulted.
