Abstract

Background: undoubtedly, it is of paramount importance the upgrading of the contents of the teaching literature for the development of the teaching-learning process in higher education. Objective: to elaborate complementary materials for the upgrading teaching in Psychiatry. Methods: it was carried out a development investigation within the qualitative approach, in "Ph.D. Luis San Juan Pérez" teaching Psychiatric Hospital of Villa Clara province during the academic years 2012-2013 up to 2014-2015. Methods of the theoretical levels were used: analytic-synthetic, induction-deduction and systemic-structural; and empiric: documental analysis of the programs and the methodological orientations and a survey in interview form was applied to residents and professors to corroborate the updating level of the contents of the specialty in the study materials. Results: it was evidenced that there is a deficit of updated literature in the Psychiatry specialty, according with the analysis that was carried out on the content of certain topics and of the basic and complementary bibliographies; learning necessities related with the insufficient updating of the contents were identified. Complementary materials were elaborated for the three years of the specialty with updated topics. Conclusions: the materials were valued by the specialists' criteria as pertinent, novel and useful and they constituted the solid base for the execution of the main protocols of hospital attention of the center.
