Abstract

Background: the teaching-training process in medical science requires new theoretical and methodological concepts today. Objective: to develop actions that favor from a pedagogical perspective the preparation of teaching assistant students in the Gynecology and Obstetrics specialty. Methods: a descriptive study was carried out, within the qualitative-quantitative approach at "Mariana Grajales" Obstetric-Gynecologic University Hospital of Villa Clara from January 2014 to January 2016. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis and induction; and empirical ones: document review, survey to students, scientific observation and interviews to key informants. Results: the results showed that there are shortcomings in teaching assistant pupils of Gynecology and Obstetrics regarding knowledge of their pedagogical functions, most showed no motivation for teaching, they do not have the basic essential knowledge about pedagogy and teaching-learning process necessary for performance, scientific and methodological actions to address these deficiencies were developed. Conclusions: according to the results of diagnosis and rationale offered by the strategy for pedagogical training, the actions elaborated strengthen the domain of pedagogy in the formation of teaching assistant students for their future roles as professionals in health sciences linked not only to health but also to teaching and they were valued by experts as relevant, feasible and of a great educational value.
